Sound Track Analysis: DEAD SILENCE / A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET / THE EXORCIST / THE VILLAGE

Most horror films - or films in general (whether they'd be horror, action, thriller) tend to have a 'signature theme-tune' meaning that either a sound-effect or a theme/ song usually reflects to the scene and is often remembered by the audience in the future which also helps add a mood to the atmosphere. There are a lot of diverse notes and sound-effects that can be used throughout horror movies such as:

- Isolated instruments.
- Long and tension/ suspenseful notes.
- Changes within pitch, tone and tempo.

Dead Silence
Dead Silence is another great example that gets their audience recognising their theme tune of a wind-up box in tune with a rhythm in the back ground. This can be heard in the opening scene of the movie once a candle is lit with blue-prints scattered around the area and is then introducing the opening titles.

A Nightmare on Elm Street
A Nightmare on Elm Street's main theme-song is also shown in it's opening titles. Whilst we hear the music, we see Freddie Kruger dressing himself up whilst giving off a sinister laugh in the backdrop.

The Exorcist
The Exorcist is another extremely known movie for its terrifying plot and graphics. With this however comes a creepy theme tune. This consists of what seems to be a high-pitched keys being played on a piano to give off a frightening feel and taunt the audience into what they're about to witness.

The Village
The Village's theme song is not like the others in this analysis; whereas the other songs sound more terrifying and give off a curious atmosphere to the audience, this theme-song is made out of a Violin and a piano composing together to make a tranquil sound and give of a peaceful effect to the audience.
